New head coach Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins are shaking up the draft. The Redskins hold the 4th pick in the draft this year and were expected to take a quarterback with the 4th overall pick to usher in the new regime in the Nation's Capital. However, the Redskins recently traded for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, the Redskins reportedly offered disgruntled defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth in the trade but were rejected because of the mammoth price tag that accompanies the mammoth defensive tackle. Both the move and the attempted move by the Redskins really put the Detroit Lions in a tough spot. The Lions hold the number two overall pick in the draft and were looking to trade down with a team that was looking to draft a quarterback before the Redskins could. However, now that the Redskins have a pro bowl caliber quarterback leading their offense next season they will not be looking at a quarterback and teams will not have to look to jump the Redskins to get a quarterback. Also there was a slim possibility that a team could also trade up to get defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. However, with Albert Haynesworth supposedly on the market teams can get a powerful tackle without having to give up draft picks.
As it looks right now with the Rams releasing quarterback Marc Bulger, Sam Bradford will be the number one pick in this years draft allowing the Detroit Lions their pick of the four players I just spotlighted in the last 4 blogs. But still their best bet would be Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh because he can solidify a front 7 that didn't play as a cohesive unit all last season. Suh could cause a lot of disruption in the middle and allow the edge rushers for the Lions to get pressure on the quarterback.
